From a rich history
to new glory
Is it possible that you’ve forgotten what real chocolate tastes like? How wonderful it is to fully savour the taste of the cocoa bean. Good to know that at Droste we still make chocolate the way it should be made. Since 1863.
Droste — taste the difference!
Since 1863
Droste has a very rich history. The name Droste comes from G.J. Droste (Gerardus Johannes Droste).
G.J. Droste opened a pastry and confectionery shop in Haarlem. From 1863 onwards, he sold small, round chocolates in his Haarlem shop, which we still know today as the distinctive Droste pastilles!
Besides the famous pastilles, Droste is still associated with the iconic Droste Boy.
The Droste Boy (created by the artist Cassandre) was part of the brand’s marketing campaign as early as 1930 and still proudly appears on every chocolate package. He is also recognisable from the huge neon sign that once adorned the factory on the river Spaarne.
